Choose Patio Furniture

This item was filled under [ Featured Articles ]

Choosing patio furniture can sometimes be a challenge. Unlike indoor furniture, patio pieces get exposed to harsh and extreme weather conditions as well as potentially rough, rowdy and messy garden activities. To find the best tables and chairs for your patio, consider the elements of function, location, style, comfort, budget and maintenance. This article should help get you started.

Step1 : Start with a budget.
Shop with a budget in mind so that you don’t waste time evaluating furniture you can’t afford. A budget also helps you trim the list of furniture vendors you should visit.

Step2 : Define the function of the patio and garden furniture.
If it’s for dining, how big should the table be?  How many chairs will you need?  Patio furniture could also be for lounging and quiet reflection (hammocks, lounge chairs with low side tables or gliders with ottomans), chatting (single chairs with a center coffee table), viewing (swings or rocking chairs) or casual seating (benches and utility tables). Should they be light enough to move around or take indoors?

Step3 : Consider the location of the patio or garden.
Is it out in the open, covered or screened? When you choose your furniture, consider the type of exposure it will have. Sunlight will make cushion colors fade and some synthetic materials deteriorate quickly. Genuine wicker will not be able to withstand constant wet and humid weather. The furniture you choose should be able to withstand whatever weather conditions it will be subjected to.

Step4 : Determine the style and décor theme of the place.
Victorian flair?  Country cottage?  Asian-inspired?  Contemporary chic? C oordinated décor and furniture helps bring the whole place together.

Step5 : Check for comfort.
Outdoor furniture is usually meant for relaxing, fun moments with family and friends. Be sure you will be comfortable for extended periods of time on those tables and chairs. Remember that bare metal can get too hot or too cold. Also, some pieces can look good, but don’t contour well to the body. Always try the furniture before committing to buy.

Step6 : Think about the furniture’s maintenance requirements.
Because it is exposed to the forces of nature, outdoor furniture needs to be regularly cleaned and maintained. Plastic and aluminum pieces are low maintenance and easy to clean (soapy water and a strong hose). Metal furniture needs to be checked and refurbished to fight corrosion. Wood tables and chairs need to be resealed or repainted. Cushions need to be replaced or repaired as needed. Consider having to deal with these tasks for the life of the furniture.

Choosing an Efficient Dishwasher

This item was filled under [ Featured Articles ]

Most of the energy used by a dishwasher is for water heating. The Energy Guide label estimates how much power is needed per year to run the appliance and to heat the water based on the yearly cost of gas and electric water heating. When it is time to buy a new unit, look for the ENERGY STAR label.

Appliances account for about 20% of your household’s energy consumption, with refrigerators and clothes dryers at the top of the consumption list.

Check the manual that came with your dishwasher for the manufacturer’s recommendations on water temperature; many have internal heating elements thatallow you to set the water heater to a lower temperature.

Scrape, don’t rinse, off large food pieces and bones. Soaking or re washing is generally only recommended in cases of burned-on or dried-on food. Be sure your dishwasher is full, but not overloaded.

Don’t use the “rinse hold” on your dishwasher for just a few soiled dishes. It uses 3 to 7 gallons of hot water each time you use it. Let your dishes air dry; if you don’t have an automatic air-dry switch, turn off the control knob after the final rinse and prop the door open a little so the dishes will dry faster.

Remember that dishwashers use less water than washing dishes by hand, about 6 gallons less per load; they also use hotter water than you would use if you were washing the dishes by hand, so they can do a better job of killing germs.

Choosing to Right Office Chair

This item was filled under [ Featured Articles ]

There are quite a few different types of office chairs out there that can help you be more productive and at the same time add comfort to your work day. Ergonomic office chairs can be purchased so that your work day is filled with productivity instead of ‘ants in your pants’ syndrome because your back or hind quarters are hurting. Picking the right office chair has to start by looking at what kind of body you have, what you need for support, and last but not least, how the chair goes with your office design and decorum.

When choosing the perfect office chair you really have to be honest with yourself about your body. Whether you are tall and thin or you have a little too much baggage, the chair that you choose will dictate the level of comfort you will enjoy while working in that chair. The size and shape of your body will dictate whether you need a high back, low back, or mid back office chair. If you are a large person, the high back chair may not give you the support you need to make it through the day. This goes for tall people also. A low back chair may give you discomfort in your lower back because it is designed for shorter people.

Not only does the back of the chair need to be in alignment with your body but you also have to look at the arms of the office chair. If you use a keyboard, the position of your elbows on the arms of the chair needs to be at a safe and comfortable level with that keyboard. You need to measure your desk and find out exactly where the height of the arms needs to be in order to rest your elbows and at the same time give you the distance you need to type comfortably.

The height of your office chair is also important. People with short or long legs will be very uncomfortable in an office chair that does not fit their body. They will either have their feet dangling above the floor or they will have their knees pushed too high to be comfortable. If you can sit in your potential chair and put your feet flat on the ground and at the same time feel that your knees are not going to go into the bottom of the desk or be uncomfortable in any way, than you have found your perfect office chair.

Once you feel that the office chair is ergonomically adjusted to your body, you can start looking for office chairs that fit the personality and décor of your office. There are many office chairs that will give you the choice of color, material, and texture. It is your choice and your wallet that dictates which office chair will be right for you. The world is your oyster, but choose wisely, because a bad office chair can cause discomfort, pain, and make your life miserable at work.
